Font Embedding in PitStop 7

I've recently upgraded to PitStop 7.03 from 6.53. Since my customers can't seem to embed their fonts, I usually run a PDF Profile that includes font embedding. Since the upgrade, PitStop is being a lot more selective about embedding common fonts like Arial, Times, Helvetica, etc. Nothing else has changed on any of the Macs here. Has anyone else experienced this?

We work on manuals with page counts up to 3000 pages. I'm having trouble running the preflight feature just to see what fonts need to be embedded. I can run it once, find out what fonts need to be fixed then I'm unable to run preflight again on both platforms in Pitstop 7.03. And yes I have noticed that some of the Arial and Helvetica will not embed. This version is turning out to be a very GD buggy program. I think there needs to be some competition in this fix the pdf program business! :x

Hi,

I'm pretty new on this forum, but I have been working with the Enfocus products for quite some time now.
I've heard that they are more strict in version 7 than in version 6, because they're now using their own PDF library. More strict doesn't always mean a bad thing. I haven't had any problems with font embedding.

How many fonts are in those files? 3000 pages...that's pretty big. Is it only text or also images? that might slow down the preflight quite a bit.

Have you ever reported this to Enfocus? I can say that they always have been able to help me out.
it's support@enfocus.com

Cheers

Syndrome, thanks for the info. These manuals do choke sometimes on the larger page counts. Many are 1000 pages or less. The error only happens when embedding a font. If I use a font through the system tab from the font picker I will get a error on both mac and pc if I run preflight again. If I choose a font from the page and document tab I can run preflight. Another words The font will embed but preflight will not work again after embedding the first font using system font through font picker. On version 6 preflight works great anytime you need it.

Jimking,

What OS are you working on? I'm still working on PowerPC G4 with OS 10.4.8.
I've tried reproducing your problem on a 100 page document with unembedded fonts. Embedded the fonts from the system tab in the font picker and was able to preflight again with no probs.

These are your own fonts or supplied? You're sure that the fonts are embedded after you've selected them in the font picker?

Fonts will always be a trouble maker in PDF.

Cheers

I've been having similar problems.

We had a Mac OS10 machine. We bought a new copy and went from Pitstop 6.5 to Pitstop 7.0 and lost our ability to embed fonts effectively. We then got our new workstation in and migrated the Pitstop 7.0 to the new Intel Mac and kept 6.5 on our old OS10 machine. And now we're having problems with both machines embedding fonts.

It seems to work fine if you run embed all fonts, and then run the pdf through our Pitstop Server. But if you embed all fonts and then just drop into Prinergy it will kick it out. BUT a preflight will say it did indeed embed all fonts. Having a great deal of trouble finding information about this problem or potential solutions.

Syndrome, I'm using a new Intel Mac, versions --Acrobat 7.0.8 and Pitstop 7.3. and yes they are my fonts. I'm using Suitcase Fusion. I only open the fonts I need. Queshank, I'm sure this is a bug in Pitstop. I have the same versions 7.3 for Mac and 7 on the PC and they both do the same thing. These versions are very buggy.

Hi Jimking, n2_space,

I don't know Suitcase Fusion that well. Are the fonts copied to your local machine? Or does it create a link to the fonts on the server side?

What does the Acrobat font properties show you? That they're also embedded or not?

Sorry for the delay...

The fonts are are on my hardrive not a server. It'll tell me what fonts that are embedded and those that are not. Sometime has gone by sinse this thread was started and now half the time I'm unabled to even embed a font. If it's possible I'll move the job and embed on an older version. Not happy.
