Pitstop Action vs Pitstop Inspector
I'm getting different RGB to CMYK conversions depending on whether I use the Inspector or an Action to convert the color (the Action is very simple; it just has one action type, called "Convert Color to CMYK").
Here's an example:
original rgb: r0 g20 b80
convert with Inspector: c100 m68 y2 k8
convert with Action: c95 m69 y0 k1
Does anyone know why Pistop would convert the color differently? The color managment settings haven't changed. I'm using Pitstop Pro 6.52. but the way.
Thanks,
Greg

Well if I'm going to get "bumped" I'm going to need a bit of information from each of you.
PitStop version
Acrobat version
Mac OS version
Windows version
Is the object tagged with an ICC profile?
What is the default source profile for RGB?
What is the default target ICC profile for CMYK?
Is color management turned on or off when this happens?
This behavior does not appear to exist in PitStop Pro 7.01 and Acrobat 7.0.8 on Mac OS X 10.4.8.

awe crap. I can't reproduce the problem now.
Sorry Matt, I can't be more specific but I know we ran into this issue a while ago. We do have color management turned on and *try* to keep up to date on version numbers (depending on what gets patched) but we're at 6.53 now and use Acro 6 more than ver 7.
Was there a bug in an earlier version? or could an embedded profile make a difference between the two methods of converting to cmyk?

I can't reproduce the problem either.
I looked more closely at my original pdf file and saw that it actually contained different shades of rgb blue. So, of course, those shades of blue should convert to different cmyk values. I was just confused...again.

I've heard of Towner. They're here in Bellingham. It's a medium sized, local, family owned business. I don't know much about them, but someone else in my shop might (I work at Premier Graphics, by the way).

Well I'll be up that way early tomorrow and all day if you've got the inclination for a face to face.
At any rate, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I thought I was doing something different. That'll teach me to multi-task with different computers and phone calls.

Hey Matt, if you'd like to get together you can reach me at gdavenport-at-premier.us or call my work extension at 360-756-5530. We could show you around the plant or something. This week we installed Odystar, our latest bewildering toy...
