Color calibration on a Splash Rip
I need to choose between a EX-12 or a Splash G640 for a Doc 12.
I have used a Fiery rip similar to the EX-12 in the past and am familiar with its Color Cal procedures. Initially we used the scanner bed to perform our calibrations, but the color accuracy was horrible. Then we used a DTP-41 spectrophotometer for the readings, using the Fiery's ColorWise, and the color was MUCH better.
This time I am leaning towards the Splash Rip as my Rip of Choice, but I am concerned about the color accuracy. From what I can tell the Splash Rip can only read the calibration sheets through the Doc 12's scanner bed. Is there a way to use a densitometer or DTP-41 type device with the Splash? Is the Scanner bed calibration much better with the Splash than it was with the Fiery? I know that the Kodak Matchprint Server uses the scanner bed for its calibrations, and it's color is right on the money, so I am assuming that maybe it has more to do with the rip than the scanner bed itself.
Any experiences with the Splash or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
