We do both Commercial and newspaper work with our Luscher. Works great, very dependable, pretty fast, no complaints.

In the older models banding could appear if the site has too much vibration, for example if you have it at the side of the pressroom and don't have proper vibration isolation to the machine. The newer (just out) series 200 use a linear motor instead of a leadscrew so they're not as sensitive to vibration.
The diodes are Nichia, 405nm violet same as Agfa and almost everyone else uses. Except these are 140mW.
A conventional (UV) plate peaks its sensitivity at 370-380nm, but retains a lot of sensitivity (how much? maybe 80%?) at 405nm. So to expose with 405nm diodes, you need some more power than you'd need if you had 380nm ones.
