Cleaning Encoding Disc on 3244?

Anyone ever done it?
I'm getting some weird errors w/ plate handling on my machine, reminds me of some of the problems I got on a VLF unit in my past life, where we had to clean the encoding disc. Be damned if I can find the thing on this unit, however?

Thanks.

- Mac

frecuency disc

Dear friend,
very often you must to clean the disc in a Trendsetter.
I suppose you have aTrendsetter model TS3 YOM 98 or 99. with encoder disk.
It is very easy to clean it. Open the right cabinet. Open the Top cover. Take out a smal black cover very close to the axel drum. By hand turn the drum and with a clean soft cloth clean the disc. It is posible you need to do that again.
If you have any problem with a Trendsetter, Screen, Topsetter or Luscher donīt doubt to call me.
Arturo.

Thank You Arturo,

Actually, it's a TS8, 2001. Does that change the procedure much?
Thanks.

creo trendsetter

Dear friend,
if you have a TS8 model YOM 2001 you have wico encoder, not frecuency disc or endoding disc.
Encoding disc is normally on models TS3 previous YOM 2000.
If you have wico encoder you need to replace it.
Be sure what do you have. Wico is a circular small piece just in the final axel drum position.
Take a picture of this area and send me to see what do you have.
Arturo.

That sounds right, Arturo. Is it a black circular object on the left-side of the drum? Has a Barcode on it and made in Germany? I thought it looked different than what I saw on the VLF I used to work w/.
Thanks.

Ouch!
Thanks. I think I'm going to try and get the person who sold us this device to take a look at that issue. Thank you for your help diagnosing the problem.
Thanks.

you're refering to the disc by which the device knows what position the drum is in, correct?

if so, on a platesetter 3244, you open the side door that allows access to the side of the drum. near the top of the drum you will see a black cover as arturo describes... mine has a warning label on it and is the only cover there that does... it's held on by three allen-head machine screws. clean with alcohol, but high purity, at least 91% and a lens cloth, wipe from center out, as when cleaning a CD. Any scratches will mean that you need a replacement disc. you may need to clean several times before you have positive results. I'd say if you don't get it in 20 cleanings to order a new part. if there's even one speck on there it will throw off the drum position count and produce a drum position error.
