Kodak Thermal Gold vs. Fuji LH PJ
We are currently in the process of negotiating a new plate deal between the 2 manufactures. I see info concerning the Kodak Sword compared to the Fuji plates but havent come across anything comparing these 2 plates. Any input would be VERY welcome.

Fuji has also been good for us.. never had a problem with the plates..
never used Kodak products..
we have priced them out before and our fuji pricing is a bit more, but not enough to switch over..
it would take quite a bit for us to switch since we have a rock solid plate right now.

I hear they scratch fairly easy. True or not?

they did have a tendency to scratch easily on the LH-PI plates, but they have switched us over to the LH-PJ plates which are much better..
you still need to watch yourself, but I think you will find that with any plate

We use the Kodak Thermal Gold plates here. No problems that I can recall.
Press room likes 'em, that's all that matters.
We do run a pre-bake and a post-bake, tho.

David, are the Kodaks light-safe? (or do you have special lights) That's what I like about the LH-PJ plates. I can open the box and leave out in flourescents and the plate stays good...
also..
haven't really had any problems with the LH-PJ scratching easily, my pressman has scratched 2 plates since install, and I left a finger print on the side of 1, and we're at around 500 plates imaged since install. You do have to watch touching the plates before imaging them, the oil(?) in your fingers will leave fingerprints when you process....

Our plate room is a big room with the yellow lights, but we have ton's 'o winders so we get a lot of white light invading in. (We give a lot of tours and they like to have windows so every body can look in!) The plates are not left laying around, they stay in their box until they are loaded into the cassettes. More of a "keep em clean" kinda thing, not so much light struck.
We also don't have the scratch issue, here, nor do we have a problem with fingerprinting the plates. No-one touches the plates but the platemakers and authorized personnel, for that one reason. If anyone sees someone in there handling the plates that we don't know, the supervisor is notified and they are run out of the dept with a warning not to return!

NICE!! I leave my plates wrapped up in the paper that come in but taken out of the box. just wanna clarify that... I don't just leave them lying around.... but since I have no auto loader and have to manually load all the time it's easier to have them right there ready to go....

Yeah, Auto works here, but is a b*tch to get him motivated!
No, we don't have an auto loader either, we get our plates in a very large box (I think 1000 per), it's on a skid, with a lid. They are manually placed in a cassette, which is where the Lotem grabs 'em.
