Seems like years (hmmm 1997) the company I worked for had 2 of the basysPrint systems, we had nothing but problems. The system did not deliver.

IMHOP stick to either Agfa or Screen, they are pretty much the big boys.

CTP???

The big names cost more. Remember that old saying "you get what you pay for!". I have worked for companies that didn't want to spend the money and ended up paying twice. I have also worked for companies that spent the money on good named equipment and have come out ahead. Go with the names that are widely used in the industry (Screen, AGFA, etc.....). Good luck and ask alot of questions.

Agfa and Screen are the big boys? Let's not forget who ships more CTP units, Creo.

There are a lot of different CTP units available. Many of them can be bought without buying a workflow to go with them. I've seen a lot of installations with Agfa Apogee and Creo Trensetters or Lotems. I've also seen a number of Prinergy/Brisque installations with Agfa platesetters.

First decide which technology you want, thermal, UV, visible light, etc. From there you will know who is on your short list. Make sure you get some sample plates for testing once you start to narrow down the choices. From there you can see if your workflow can drive the CTP unit and go from there.

Ok,OK, I LEFT ONE OUT!

Matt is right CREO is one of the top names if not the top name in this field.
Didn't mean to leave them out. (For the small companies, CREO can be costly.)

Sorry I left out Kreo
or Kredak
or whatever they will become.
Good equipment, poor management.

LOL

I'm sure some will disagree with me on this but here goes . . . .
Look into Heidelberg's Prinect MetaDimension and Signastation w/ a Prosetter. We are a "small" shop and this is the system we run. Absolutely awesome! If the system is setup and RUN CORRECTLY it is nearly flawless. As always depending on the budget and your needs you have several GOOD options.

Matt made the following comment,
that I just noticed and felt it deserved
a comment...

<snip>
Agfa and Screen are the big boys?

<snip>

Matt - for the market data I have, it has
been Screen that has been shipping the
most CTP units - per year. Of course
many of these have Agfa or Fuji badges.
And, until recently, in the US and other
regions, Screen had an agreement with
Kodak; now, Screen USA has now joined
forces with PRST perhaps to make-up for
their recent loss of a distribution channel.

Regardless, for a while now - Screen has
had the edge - not Kreo.

Regards,

Steve.

It was my understanding that Creo has more installed units.
