Postscript from Quark 7.2

I work in prepress... running a test...

I have a quark file, all images used are RGB, make all the usual selections and print to a postscript file. I know that the really the best way is to convert them to CMYK in Photoshop, but I'm trying to set up some basic colour management to catch the odd rogue RGB in customer supplied artwork - aren't we all.

The question is/are, does the postscript file contain all the data from the RGB file intact, then putting the ps file in distiller makes the conversion to CMYK, or does quark make the conversion from RGB to CMYK?
