Riddle me this
Hi All,
We all know CMYK and RGB don't mix, in the ideal world designer would create everything in CMYK from layout to images provided. In reality, we too often see a mix of both as if it's perfectly acceptable... because in the end, the job is still printed.
So refresh me on this... ideally we all like to provide and receive layouts in CMYK, images in CMYK correctly? or would everyone rather have sRGB layouts links with a mixed of RGB, Grayscale, bitmap and CMYK images? Sound like fun?

Our digital printer can handle RGB & CMYK so it doesn't matter to me for that.
For offset, I prefer to receive CMYK images, but if the designer is clueless I don't mind RGB because I know how to convert it properly for our presses.

i'd prefer cmyk, but if we get rgb we just convert it
if there's a major major colour shift we'll highlight it to whoever needs to see it - otherwise we run a cromalin and see where the dice falls

Depends on the job and who it's coming from. Most non-pros I prefer RGB and I convert. For people that know WTF they R doing CMYK.

I'm under the impression many printers are already PDF workflow, is there a easy button to hit or preference setting that automatically converts the files? If not, when you guys spend the extra time converting color space, do you also charge your clients for it under "prep work"?

We charge. No easy button, although I have scripts and actions that make it easier.

We are totally digital, and we prefer CMYK layouts with RGB images.
Layouts in CMYK for color accuracy - prefer Pantone spot colors specified.
Images in RGB because we convert in-RIP to our printer profiles, and if it's converted beforehand the color gamut gets unnecessarily clipped.

We've got our Nexus workflow set up to convert it to CMYK if it's RGB and leave it alone if it's CMYK. Works like a charm.
