yeah, they (workflow solutions like Esko, Prinergy, etc) are all about the same. they're a bunch of modules (applications) that you can purchase as a group or add on to as time and work environments change.

like the ole gran pappy once said...
there is no such thing as a free puppy.

gmg here. Love the re-linearization and controls...
Used to use rampage build in ICC but there was no way to re-linearize printers.

Hi David,

Our primary Rip/Renderer is MetaDimension. We use this to drive our CtP devices. ColorProof Pro is a Meta option that allows the same Meta rip/server that drives the CtP to also drive a proofer. Are you running ORIS on the same rip/server that is ripping plates for the Lotem?

Regards,

Mark

no, it's on a separate box that runs just the Epson (basically a queue manager kinda deal). We could have it on the server, but it's just easier for the Color manager to get to it and make any mods to the hotfolders and such.
Our server is in a separate room with some of the RIPS, and there's not a lot of "people" allowed in there for obvious reasons.

With our hodge-podge of different manufacturers' devices and associated softwares, we have a lot of RIPS.

We have a new toy that we got with our Kodak FlexCel, a brand spankin' new Evo box. Just an example of the stuff that we accumulate by having miss-matched workflow.

something else to play with,
go figure...

David,
Does Esko have an option to do what your Oris is doing?
What did you guys use before Oris?

As you know, Heidelberg does sell it's own proofing solution with most of our systems. Our legacy goes back to one of the first digital proofers, the Hell CPR 403 in the mid 80's. In the early 90's we were working with a proprietary profiles with our scanners. There was a movement to make profiles open and this was directed by the ICC. We agreed with them and used our color knowledge to write a program that would generate an open, ICC profile. This was Print Open software. We also used our knowledge to program our own CMM for our rips. To this day, we use our own CMM and Print Open continues as part of our Prinect Profile Toolbox, although allot more sophisticated then we were in the 90's. These, along with our Prinect MetaDimension rip and our ColorProof Pro proofing software, provide a completely integrated proofing solution. Our system does offer profile generation, profile iterations, multiple drivers, printer calibration/linearization, spot colors and even our own CMM. In fact, Print Open was one of the first ICC profiling software to offer iterations. If you are driving your CtP with MetaDimension, you can also have it drive your proofer. Or we do offer an offline MetaProof station.

Regards,

Mark
Isn't the ColourProof Pro option in meta just a special integrated version of EFI best RIP?

Regardless of who actually makes the software, it is very well integrated in to the workflow, where as others have mentioned the workflow spools out to seperate RIP.

We also feed our 2 Epson 9800s with EFI. It's a nice setup IMO.
