InkSaving Software - are you looking into it?

Hi all,

There's been a little buzz around the industry about inksaving tools. There are now solutions from OneVision, GMG, CGS, Agfa, Binuscan, Alwan, etc.

I'm just curious how many people have started to look into it? Is it being driven from the quality side (less ink on the page, better gray balance, etc.) or the financial side (save xx percent of your CMY ink usage)? What are the driving factors?

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Greg

We are currently using ink-saving software for the ink savings alone, but, we have had problems with it. It is only supposed to effect the quads but we have found it can do strange and not-so-wonderful things so we are very careful with it.

I personally don't trust it at all but it is said that it saves the company a lot of money.

I imagine the cost saving repercussions + quality predictable outputs in such a context to work only if you have a highly efficient streamlined workflow.

If the whole flow is super tight I bet it could work ...

but I don't know anything about the subject at hand so don't quote me on it

Yikes,

The thread has had 85 views and a whole 5 people have answered the poll question.

Where's the class participation?

Regards,
Greg

It is funny to see how things take time to reach the market.
About Ink saving, we’ve presented such solution 10 years ago and no one was believing it was possible to save money with it!

Time makes things append… but it takes time to apend!

We are commercial sheetfed shop and we are looking into it.
Our primary reason is ink savings but almost equally important would be quality control.

I say almost because it is hard sell to some people who think more ink you throw at the press, better the color 8O

We have been running ink PROFILING software, (InkPro and now Printlink) but I think you refer to something else? (like UCR / GCR?)

Not Press Matcher but rather Ink Saver from CGS. Well, I don't use CGS software and I mixed them up.

I have not played with GCR since my scanner days but "back to the future", the next version of Prinect Profile Toolbox releasing in September/October time frame will have a Acromatic/GCR conversion as a standard feature.

Regards,

Mark
