If a program creates an icc profile, and it's a true icc profile, then it has to meet certain standards. Otherwise it wouldn't be an icc profile.

That being said, Yes ... of course you can use an icc profile created with PrintOpen anywhere that you can use an icc profile. ie: Photoshop, ColorSync, 3rd party RIP's, etc.

Got it. We will probably be adding a Epson wide format printer and some type of Xerox digital device later. None of these will run through meta, and I'd like to be able to create profiles for these also.

I'm starting to think that I'd be better off using a 3rd party program like the Profiler or PM, rather than than the proprietary Print Open...since I will probably need it for non Hiedelberg devices down the road.

Who's using either of the above in a meta environment?
They are both totally different. X-Rite just purchased GretagMacbeth, their big competitor so now one company has both. PROFILER has a smoother color engine but overall, ProfileMaker Pro has more options and power under the hood (for example the ability to build profiles for any illuminant not just D50, ability to compensate for FWA"s in papers etc). They are both strong packages and hopefully we'll see the best of both in a single package.
