Need to make real color proofs

right now I'm using Illustrator CS2 to make PDF's which I then print to EFI Designer Edition RIP software and then onto my HP Designjet 30n printer - I can't get the colors to look right, there's always green and magenta over evrything, if you have any tips on how to use this EFI software I'll take them. also- I'm looking for a new solution for outputting color proofs that are accurate, I assume I'll need some software and a new printer - any suggestions? 8O

I've not worked with the designer edition. Does it suport ICC profiles? I've got the Colorproof XL and it's great. You need a reader and patches from what ever it is your trying to match. If your not sure what to do I'd suggest getting ahold of one of the color consultants there are out there. We had Ron Ellis in and it was a world of differance.
