Calibrating a Canon inkjet printer

Hi

I appreciate that a studio inkjet printer is never going to be an absolutely reliable proofing tool.

But, I wondered if anyone had any tips on calibrating a inkjet printer to simulate, as much as possible, the CMYK output of offset litho?

I have a Canon i9950 A3 printer, which makes great client proofs, but the colors are somewhat off when it comes to 'realistic' prepress proofing. I know that photographers love it because of the good details and 'rich' colour depth. But for a graphic designer like me the colour depth is somewhat too rich.

Any tips welcome.

Thanks.

You're going to need an icc profile, either one you created, or a premade one might be good enough, depending on how picky you are about absolutely precise color:wink:.

Here is a link to some generic icc profiles: link.

Then when printing from Photoshop or Acrobat choose the i9950 icc profile and a CMYK profile (such as US Web Coated SWOP v2). That should at least get you in the ball park color wise.

Thanks seratne. I'll give that a try tomorrow.
