Mainenance Req. on Epson 7600

I just finished a proof on my Epson 7600 and the window is showing Mintenance Req 0040. The manual(yes I pulled out the manual) just says to see page 11 and call Epson. :?

Before I do make a call can anyone tell me what 0040 would be? Is this a simple cutter blade needing to be replaced(I hope)?

Any help would be helpful, Thanks.

I think its related to the maintenance assembly, but its hard to tell. Its simply an error saying that some parts have reached the end of their "life", but doesn't mean your printer actually needs immediate maintenance. You could try clearing the counters for the cleaner...found this via google...

1.Turn Printer Off 2. Hold Paper Source + Down Arrow + Cut/Eject (all at same time) 3. Turn printer on while still holding down all three buttons. 4. Release buttons when messages appear on LCD. 5. Push down button to reach Clear Counters 6. Push right arrow to select Clear Counter option. 9. Push down until you get to Cleaner 10. Push right to select and 11. Push Cut/Eject (Enter) 12. Wait for printer to go through the needed operations. 13. Turn printer off then turn on as you normally would.

Thanks for the help.

Since posting I checked the maintenance menu on the printer and see that the "cleaning unit" life is used up. Hmm...

I think I will try resetting the counter like you suggest. It works for the waste tank. If I start seeing quality problems, then I will see how much it will cost to get some service in here since I don't think this is a user seviceable part(s).

If it's anything like a 9600, we got the same message. The cleaning unit amounted to a little felt pad that the nozzles ran over. We just took it out and cleaned and put it back.
