Automatic 2-sided proofer
Greetings all.
I'm trying to get info on the best solution for backing up content proofs. Proofs are not for color but content and pagination. We currently output imposed signatures from preps to our Epson 9800. The proofs are then manually glued together, folded and trimmed to show a final comp. Is there anybody using an AUTOMATED system out there? It's important to eliminate any operator intervention involved in flipping sheets and re-feeding into the proofer. We want 100% automation if possible. Thanks in advance.[/b]

We have a epson 9800 and use it for contract color and lores comp proofs without the glueing. We are able to turn the sheet around, align it with the holes that are on the metal plate were the sheet comes out, and it backs up just as accuratly as a blueline. However, you must create a profile that you choose when making the lores comp. Someone from Agfa created that profile for us so I can't tell ya how to do it. But it can be done! The glueing thing is a nightmare. Maybe someone can chime in to explain how it's done.

I am familiar with running sheetfed paper through the proofer and then manually flipping and re-feeding through again.........
HOWEVER,
we are looking for the best automatic roll-fed operation available.
Thanks tho JimKing

I don't know of a 2 sided roll fed inkjet printer. Wouldn't you need two print heads to do this, one for the top and one for the bottom?
I don't think I've ever seen an inkjet with two print heads (doesn't mean they don't exist, kinda like bigfoot...).
my .02,
David

I just found this
http://www.troika-systems.com/Englis...s_Flipper.html
looks like it takes roll paper, images 1 side, cuts it, and re-feeds it into the printer.
pretty slick
might be what you're looking for.
cheers,
David

The Agfa Sherpamatic could be an option. I recall looking at one when we put in CTP, but figured for the price - I could manually flip a lot of sheets...

I was under the impression that it was a HP drive but with the cutter and flipper unit added...
could be wrong on that.
