Real World experience of Matt Beals' handy color conversion.

I just wanted to post an example of Matt's color conversion setup for those wanting good RGB to CMYK conversions.....http://www.mattbeals.com/cms/default.html

OK. the top LEFT is original RGB pdf from Pooplisher.

the top RIGHT image is correction with Matt's setup.

the bottom picture is with NO COLOR MANAGEMENT.

AS YOU ALL CAN SEE 8O Matt has an exceptional and VERY EASY setup, that PRODUCES RESULTS that are worthy.

THANKS MATT.

Acrobat 7 makes it easier . "Convert all Colors to CMYK" under the color tab.

not everyone uses Acrobat 7, regularly. My truflow 3 doesnt even accept Acro 7 files(last time I checked Screen was still scratching their heads), so even though I have both Acro 6 & 7, I use 6 more... Lots of folks are still using 5, so I just wanted to show a visual example for the "newbie" prepressy's that Matt's setup can be beneficial and easy to setup. THAT's ALL....

thanks for the tip though.

Awesome work Mr. Beals!

I was able to convert these webpages to PDF format using Acrobat v7's ?Create PDF/From Web Page? feature. Handy tool!

Question:

In this setup, assuming pdf workflow, what do you do if you need to color-correct critical images?

overprint, can you use the "touch-up tool" to take the color critical image to photoshop, make the adjustments, and then save and bring it back into the .pdf??

Color critical color corrections need to be done on a individual basis. If you are looking for a better CMYK conversion then you should look at Apago PDF Enhancer or Calls pdfColorConvert. There are "higher-end" tools available. But both those should be quite adequate for most people. I sell them both, I've tested both. I like both. PitStop in a pinch or on a limited budget. But PitStop and PDF Enhancer or pdfColorConvert are a great combination.

Pitstop's not listing my Photoshop CMYK settings in its drop-down menu. We have very specific settings for the ink density limits for our web offset presses, so any help on getting Pitstop to recognize those settings would be appreciated.

No, PitStop can't take advantage of PhotoShop's color management features. PitStop can only use an ICC profile.

I am working on updating the color management page on my site for Pro 7. Anyone interested?
