Epson 9000 misfeed
We use an Epson 9000 to image our imposition proofs (backed-up). We just feed cut sheets thru it, then flip it over and run the same sheet thru again to get the back-up. This has served us very well for years, but recently the 9000 will spit out the sheet (without any printing) when it is first loaded. We just re-load the sheet and it then prints fine.
It's been getting worse over the past few weeks - almost every sheet has to be loaded twice before it prints. I believe it is an issue with the 9000 rather than the ORIS rip. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Interesting, different machine (Epson 1520) but same problem. Print a page and the paper is picked up and fed through the printer then the lights start blinking and I get "Paper Out" error message, I hold the button down (for the alloted 3 seconds) and the same thing happens 8O 8O Damn it the printer is not out of paper :x :x
If I hold it for a second and give it a bit of back pressure, then I can coax it to pick-up and print the second page :? :?

I'm thinking it has something to do with the paper sensor. Maybe if it gets slow, I'll tear it apart and vacuum it out inside or something. It's just weird that it's only a problem every other load, cuz when I reload it it runs!

We have the same type problem with our HP 5000s (we have two). We have to wipe the little sensor off (I think they blow it off with canned air or something). It helps for a while. I think the paper dust just builds up on it and it has trouble "seeing" the edge of the paper. We have an Epson 9600 but we use roll paper (print only one sided) in it so we don't have that issue.

Yeah, I just did that this morning, but haven't had to use it yet today to see if it worked. I had picked up the tech manual on eBay and was perusing it and saw that tip. Thanks! I'll let you know if it is improved.

Now all I need do is find this damned little sensor everyone is mentioning :x
Maybe when it's slow I'll take the printer outside and run over it 8O
