anybody using colorvision spyder pro for monitor calibration

Hi,

My boss just asked me to check into Spyder technology, as we all of a sudden had the press start to gain a heck of alot more than we had set on the plates, consequently the photos were way to dark.

We have fixed that problem, but are always battleling if the monitor is showing us the correct colors.

Anybody using SpyderPRO for the monitor calibration.

Thanks
Holly

I don't have any experience with the Spyder myself...heard both good and less than good things about it. You might want to check out the Monaco Optix XR and the Gretag MacBeth EyeOne Display also. Both are pretty decent in my opinion and I believe were rated above the Spyder in the past.

The trending and evaluation part of the Optix software are very handy.

The original Spyder has been a mixed bag. There have been users that got "dud" units but Color Vision did replace them. A new unit (Spyder2) was just released this week, said to be much better hardware. I did beta, it was OK (slow) and the new software is nice but I still think the Optix XR and now the NEW Eye-One Dispaly2 (also announced this week) are better. Until I started testing the Eye-One Display2, I'd say the X-Rite Optix and Pro software were tops. They now take a close 2nd to Eye-One Match 3.0 (new, free upgrade) and this new Eye-One Display2.

I'm on v2.03. Hopefully the download site will have v3 up soon.
After frequently checking the quality of the black point that the (now older) eye one display had made, I can say that it continues to set it perfectly.
