Epson 7600
Greetz all,
My current place of employment utilizes a Epson 7000 as a proofer. Now upgraded to Onyx Postershop for our Scitex PressJet and Scitex XLJet we are doing color management and want to get this beat on board. With a surplus of money the powers that be are looking to upgrade to the 7600. Does anyone know if there is something newer coming down the pipe to replace the 7600? They will wait if something is in the pipeline.
Anyone using either the 7000 or 7600 for proofing? How are you getting along with profiling and workflow?
Thanks!! 8O

Kind of doubt it anytime soon. Epson is having enough problems producing and supplying the new 4000. Demand far exceeds production.
The 7600 should be ideal for proofing due to the Ultrachrome pigmented inks. You might want to look into the 4000 (much faster) unless you need that 24 inch width.

We use an Epson 7600, 9600 and sevaral 4000s driven by GMG for proofing currently. Our Kodak Approval now sits idle a good deal of the time because our clients have seen the quality and (more importantly for them) the price difference of the Epsons.
I had heard rumors of a new Epson printer, but just guesses really, and they were mainly revolving around a larger width rather than new printing technology.

The AGFA Sherpa we're getting is made by Epson. I wonder what model that corresponds to in the Epson numbering??????

The Sherpa 24m and 44m look identical to the 7600 and 9600 respectively, but I couldn't tell you what print engine they use...do they use ultra-chrome inks? The grand Sherpa is some other beast...

I think it's just got the 6 color inks....haven't got it yet. In September. But the print engine is right from AGFA...it's called print drive and is a part of ApogeeX............

I got a Sherpa 2 and a Sherpa 43. Their control panels look similar to a Epson, however they are really Mutah Inkjets.

We've got a 7600 (Bestcolor RIP) and 9600 (running straight off Nexus). Both have given very consistent color, no downtime. At GraphExpo last year, seems like every vendor featured epsons with their own nameplate and rip.

Epson 7000 - BestColor XL on a PC (every time we use the PC it just confirms we made the right choice when we bought Macs for our main workstations!). We also had the Epson color profiled to our Komori press.
Didn't use our Cromalin after the Epson was installed (3 yrs old now). The difference between the 7000 and the current 7600 is it's a tad quicker and the grayscale output is closer to the final result.
As for waiting for the latest bit of kit - if you have a need to proof why wait? We take the view that as soon as you open the box it's obsolete!

update, update, here we go, here we go, this just in........
They installed our Sherpa 24m today....when the tech hooked it up on the network and "browsed it" it came up as an epson 7600......
I had a brief demo and it's a 7 color beast. With 2 black ink cartridges.....??????......
Anyway my boss is already tossing about the idea of using it for imposed 4 color short run use. I think he's nuts but he usually gets his own way somehow. I mean it'll have to be on epson proof paper to get the color accurate right? And it can't be backed up cause the emulsion is only on one side right? Whatever.......I've got ApogeeX to learn so the SHERPA is for SOMEBODY else to master.....not me!!!!!!!!!!!
