Yep, it will utilize a Photo black and Light black cartridge. You can Swap out the Photo black for the Matte black when using Matte paper.

Nah. We use paper from a variety of sources quite successfully. In fact we get better results (lower overall delta E) with a third party paper. Epson printers driven by GMG are our primary proofing system now.

Yeah, the paper would need to be able to accept ink on both sides...difficult to find in anything but a Matte paper. There are 2-sided media guides out there for use with roll media, but I only know of them for the larger 9600 and 10600s.
