Why are my IllyCS2 Gaussian blurs (made with spot color)
importing as CMYK?

If I understand you correctly Zimmy, if you import a spot coloured file into Illy you must Link rather than Embed or the Embedded file will adopt the colour space of the Illy document be it CMYK or RGB

Could be related to the fact that Illustrator's Gaussian Blur is an effect that uses transparency. Spots and transparency don't always mix.

Re-map the colors in ArtPro, and screw the Illustrator file.
This is fine unless you have a kajillion blends on the job.

But the 4 channels are 4 different values, none of which are probably
correct as the original intent.

Importing into what? Artpro?
If so, I am sure you can save the AI file as a PDF (1.4 or above) and import that with transparency effects still in place.
