Anything noteworthy here? Worth upgrading from 8.4.4 or should I wait for Rev2 or 3 to come out? I saw the release notes and I wasnt excited about anything new it offered.

Color Management does not work in the Import module.

Haven't really found any other problems except when I go back to 8.4 rev 4b with WIN 2003 SP2 installed my Import WF's no longer work and I have to un-install SP2.

I think most of the new things were the PDF tools which require a new license to use. (Prepress, Pitstop, JDF to PDF modules, etc... )

It looks like this was an update the should have come out 6 months ago.
To many issues that have not been fixed since 8.0. I'm quite unhappy with the pace Artworks is taking to put out updates.

There are some new and better things with 8.5 but I think for the most part this was a huge flop.

It's not 64bit for the OS X server so thats a huge bust.

Like Joe said they did more on upgrading the software with new options that you must pay for.

Color Management does not work....How can a version get released and not notice that???

I have more problems with importing workflows...But I knew that would be the case.

I've put a stop on testing until they can release an update that has fewer issues.

Devin

Another thing that I've noticed that is good, is Nexus Manager is now much snapper and the not updating uses found in 8.4 seem to be fixed.

Nexus manager also has a much cleaner look and the filter by name is slick.
The ability to turn off columns and re-arrange them them is also well done.

Does anyone know if 8.5 fixes the issues 8.4 was having with Indy CS3 transparency effects?

Short answer No.

It does solve some issues but not all issues. I've got a few test jobs that have had issues in the past and most of them still have the same issues.

So we did some testing, and 8.5.1 will work with Indy CD3 effects (glows, bevels, ect) fine.

There is, however, a huge bug with the assembler, where it won't let us change the screen angles. Every time a screen angle is changed, and the module retried, the angle reverts back to 45. This is for spot plates only. AWS confirmed the bug, but who knows when it will actually be fixed.

Aside from that godzilla sized bug, 8.5.1 has been pretty smooth. I love the new nexus manager, much more responsive then 8.4.

What I want to know about 8.5 is if anyone has tried to send an epson. We are not currently able to send epsons. Maybe its just because we are running an intel mac as our server. What the heck????
