Mapping PMS colors in Powerlayout??

Is it possible to map two PMS colors to be on the same plate in Powerlayout? For instance if I have one link that has Pantone 100 C and another that has PMS 100. The are both EPS links from Nexus.

Anyone know of a good trick to do this with out going back to the original file and changing the color there?

Thanks,
Dub

The only way I know of is to merge the plates in Dotspy.

We have some legacy products where we will run a combo form that may have upto 8 different products that have pms colors ranging from say Pantone 200 C, Pantone 200, PMS 200, spot 200 etc. These are the ones that we need to all print on the same plate. Mostly they have been worked up in Artpro, so we have to go back to each artpro file and make the colors all the same and then make new links and finally replaced them in Powerlayout. So you can see that is would be nice to just map them all in powerlayout to print on one plate. We have found out that if we do map them if they are links, they will not print on the same plate, but if we do place the AP files, then it will work. Just becomes really time intensive to place and print fat PS of the AP files.

Links are referring to ripped Hires data. Changing inks in Powerlayout doesn't work as the link to the Hires is lost that way. You can either do the conversion before making the links (as you explained in your post), or do it after making the one bit tiffs by opening them both in Dotmerge and saving them as a merged 1bit tif before sending them to film/plate.
The advantage here is that you don't have to make links again of your ArtPro file and replace them in Powerlayout, but the disadvantage is that your original hasn't been modified, so in case of a reprint, you will have to merge the tiffs again.
