Artpro/Nexus and ICC Profiles

What do you need to do to get these to work? A seperator sent tiff files with embedded profiles to our sister company who output approvals, the approvals are a good match to the color house's Fuji final proofs. The files were sent to us we make Fujis and the color is crap (looks like the tiff without the profile).

Our sister company uses AP and Nexus and they are "not sure" how they picked up the profile since they had all settings to ignore. I tried printing to a PSTI file since thats what they said they did but the files crash with a "Syntax error-Error in ICC rendering profile" Have monkeyed around with the color managment settings in AP and Nexus but nothing seems to work.

I'm at a loss at this point any ideas?

You need too profiles. One for your proofer and the other one is what you want to match.

You then need to make a device link ICC of those two.
This is a huge thing to start ICC across multiple location, so you might want to look into higher someone.

You don't want to apply the ICC until it goes to the Fuji.

You will need to explain your workflow in much greater detail.

Thanks, turns out its was only a monitor profile so it explains a lot. Now we just have to get the separator to redo them for our presses.
Thanks

Devin,

Not to try to hijack this thread..but have you successfully been using workflows to apply icc profiles to pages???

I've got a couple of issues, mainly that there is no black point compensation (which we like to use) but I've been getting very different results when I try to apply profiles either through PS interpreter or Import.

Now, I'm not talking about devicelinks for proofing or anything, that I've got down pat...but I'm talking about taking a profile that we've created from a pressproof on job stock and have it apply to the whole page...ct's and lw combined. One of the issues I've got is that sometimes if I match a CT's background to a linework build (like a rich black) it will come out with slightly different values and you'll see a very faint "line".

We're currently doing this on the front end application files, but I'd much prefer to do it to the rip only file so I have what I like to call "stock portability". If they change something at the last minute...I'm not rumaging for "unprofiled" images or anything to re-rip.

Any ideas? Comments?? Suggestions??

Thanks.

Dave

I have found that nexus and the ICC is lacking like you've said.

There is not enough controls in nexus and the results can be poor, and sometimes wrong. I'm actually testing another software that can sit infront of Nexus as a hot folder, right now I can't think of the name. Will post the name when I'm at work.

It's got just about everything you need and so far rocks. Right now they are writing some new code that will help in RGB black to CMYK.

We apply an ICC when we screen for press, along with applying ICC for the proofer.

I was afraid you were going to say that. You were my last hope... I've been meaning to ask you this for a while now...and I always forget. I've been struggling with this on and off for a while now. Can't seem to get to a happy place.

We've been doing it the way we are now for years, so it's not the end of the world. I've got a dongle for Odystar, and I'm trying to do something with that. I'll let you know if anything good comes of it. They've supposedly just released 2.5.4 so I'm gonna fire that up and see if it does anything for me.

Let me know what that other solution is...I might go for it.

Hey my threads been hijacked! j/k

So for my proof and plates to match the supplied proofs I'd need a device link for both the fuji and the imagesetter correct?

For someone that has a good background in this is it a very time consuming task?

Doing ICC to the plates is very time consuming and you should not need to. We do only for certain stock. We print on poly and other plastics.

What you need is to find the state at how your press print. If you have more then one, you will need to try and bring them inline so that they all print about the same. This can be hard.

You then need to generate an ICC from the press sheets. Take a few sheets from each press and do an average works well.
Play out a proof with no ICC and generate an ICC from that.

With those two you can generate a device link for Nexus for your proofer.

There are many, many steps that I skiped over as this is not the correct forum on how to go about making an ICC and what hardware and software is needed.
