Nexus legacy RIP, using an Interpreter, will indeed flatten your file, as the internal format (OPPO), doesn't support transparancies. If you enable the PDF flattener in the Interpreter options, results should be fine. The flattening is not flawless, but according to Seybold, one of the better in the market, as at least all spot colours are respected.

I prefer vectortrapping, the 4 stage trapper can do anything the Rastertrapper can do on CT/LW, and your traps can easily be edited in any PDF editor. The 4Stage trapper also puts the trapping on a separate layer, so if you're working on a PDF 1.5, you can view the trap layer afterwards in Acrobat.

Security wise, you can still encrypt your PDF's so your customer can't take it anywhere else.

I can't see how you prefer vector trapping? It has so many issues.

And no you do not have the same control as you do with raster trapping.

I admit that there are some issues with the vector trapping, but the overall control makes it easy to solve most of these issues. First of all I can't think of any parameter available in the Rastertrapper that isn't available in 4Stage Trapper, and you can directly modify the traps in a PDF editor. In Europe, about every prepress company is getting away from the CT/LW format and switching to PDF, and I can't imagine they would do that if they would have to deal with a lesser trapping result.

Since you seem to work for artworks, I've got tons of files that can't be trapped via vector. Most of them have been sent to HQ's.
Sure most of them had issue, and may or not have been built the best way, but with vector it will fail..With raster it works 95%.

Plus TIME...it takes so much longer to go vector. Again we don't have the time.

Take another look at the vector vs raster trapping. There is much more you can control in raster. This is why were not getting PDF trapper.
This is the big push for artworks, so they are going to say it's the same or better. But if they can't fix vector trapping then there is no hope with PDF trapping.

I don't want to modify traps manually, this could never work. I could do the trapping in ILLY if I wanted to do that, and not need some $$$$ RIP.

We in America do things differently then Europe... This is something Artworks does not get. It's not who is better, but there is a different thinking.
