NEXUS?? What, When Where?? etc

I just got passed over for a new job because I had no experience with Nexus. I consider myself extremely adaptable and able to learn easily. I did so with Preps and most of the other software I have a handle on by finding and absorbing any information on the subject I could get hold of.

Is there a PDF or other type of file (or book for that matter) I can get ahold of that will explain layout and teach what Nexus is all about? I'd really love to get my hands on a Training manual

Thanks, Sparky :?

The Nexus manual is very in-depth. There are so many features that you probably won't use half of them. I could send you a PDF of the Nexus 8 manual I just downloaded but it is 20 MB.

The position you got passed over for. Were they looking for a Nexus Power User (someone to create and modify workflows)?

I printed thw whole manual out tonight...in color! All 238 pages of it.

Sparky, I'd be glad to send you the PDF too although I'm not sure what you would get out of it without having the software to play around with. That's how I learn the best anyway.

I sent him the PDF. It was to big to send through email so I put it on my FPT site for him to download. I couldn't even split the pdf because it was locked.

Either you are in a big Nexus market (if there is such a thing) and Nexus operators are a dime-a-dozen or that employer is an idiot who you didn't want to work for anyways.

Anyone who uses a current high-end rip can learn the basic operator functions of Nexus in a couple hours from another good operator. You only need the in-depth training if you are going to be building new workflows, which shouldn't come up very often unless they're so big that they're adding new presses and proofers all the time.

Or... did they really want you to be fluent in ArtPro or it's simpler version, NexusEdit? That application actually IS hard to learn. You have to be able to think in fluent Belgian to make hide or hair out of it.

They have training classes for Nexus all across the US, and when someone has a nexus system the training is free exxept for the travle expense. I don't know why any employer wouldn't take advantage of this when someone has pre-press knowledge.
