Nexus vs. Prinergy

Hello Nexus gang,

I had alot of experience in Nexus and Artpro prior coming to
a new shop that had Prinergy Powerpack/Pandora. They had
just purchased Prinergy not long ago. They have been struggling. Editing PDF's using Pitstop and trapping PDF's inside the CREO RIP workshop really sucks.
It is so bad, now we are going to get a new system - Nexus
along with Artpro 8!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank GOD! Nothing compares
to Nexus when it comes to Packaging Graphics! Creo needs
to hang it up.

Prinergy versus Nexus

What is your opinion of trapping using Prinergy versus Nexus?

We currently bring our Illustrator EPS files into Prinergy to auto-trp them (it works well 99.75% of the time)

With a Nexus workflow (and ArtPro) what is the procedure for trapping?

Thanks,
Robert

you can trap in ArtPro manually with multiple types of trappers or automatically in Nexus and if you don't like the results crack the file open in ArtPro and fix the traps with full editability...you can't do this with the Creo workflow because everything is pre-flattened

Trapping

Thanks for the info - is auto-trapping in Nexus actually different than auto-trapping in ArtPro? - By that I mean could I totally ignore ArtPro for trapping and just rely on Nexus (unless I've got a specific trap issue I want to change)?

Cheers

There is a huge difference between Vector Traping and Raster traping!
Scitex now prinigery by far has the best raster trapping out their. Vector trapping in Artpro aswith Nexus is so-so. It's the best I've seen but has a long way to go before I can trust it. Nexus raster trap is very good and does most things well, but you don't quite have the control one would like.

This sucks! I've tried it and it failed on anything that had trans!
The other thing it's very slow.

I'm very surprised to hear this.
I run jobs w/ trans all day everyday - no problems.
Slow... not at all.
