Apogee Taipan 3.01

I work for a guy a couple of years ago and he had this system, Taipan rip 3.01 and a Agfa 800? film recorder. I only used the system for a few months, and know very little about how it works. I always just printed to it, previewed, and ouput.

ANYWAYS...I get a call yesterday from a local guy who bought this sytem, and has been using it with good success...until someone said he should get it on a network. Well it hasn't worked since and network boy has screwed something up. Copyiing eps files to a hot folder isnt a big hassle to this workflow, so ooops.

Being a known geek in town, i get a referral and he calls me. Here is what I found

Apogee Taipan 3.01

-hardware seems fine, everything starts and connects.
-preview server starts - OK
-rip server starts - OK, but goes to 99% CPU and stays there? system
goes to crawl is why i noticed this.
-preview pilot starts - OK
-RIP preview pilot starts - OK
-in the Tuner? the hot folders were setup, and i checked their locations.
there was a place that let you set a setup file, this was empty. SO i
fumbled around and created one not finding one, the software had been
reinstalled with no success. this may or may not have been correctly done
-when placing one of their eps files into the hotfolder(once worked)
nothing happens, except the rip server eating all the CPU. and you can't
quit it, it hangs.
-I left it running, he is going ot shut it off after he checks it on his way out

I appreciate any thoughts on this. I know it is an old system, and I'm lost. I have only spent 2 hours with it and am a little lost on all the apps that run, and how it actually works. everything sees each other and connects, seems to be running normally. It isnt a paying job(damn kharma), but the guys were cool and need some help. If i need to tell any more info, just let me know.
