Damn spot color bars

We're running a apogee we bought second hand so it came with very little instruction. Luckily the shop I was before was running apogee so I'm somewhat familar but that shop was using a rampage rip so I can't transfer all the tricks over to here.

Here's the issue. For some reason I can't get sopt color bars to show up. They used to but now for some reason the "spot" bar is 4c breakdown of the spot. So far it's not been too much of an issue. On most jobs I can map it to a process color and it's fine.

The way I used to get them is make a .25x.25 eps in quack and fill it with the propper color and place it in the dupmarks folder in preps. I'd just step it across as needed and no issues. Nor for some reason that doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hey, you guys gave me a good idea!

I keep an illustrator eps file for spot colors which I constantly use....i have a 2 color and a 2 color with black and a 3 color with black eps and on a job by job basis, change the spots in Illustrator.

If I just named the 2 color eps spot 1 and spot 2 etc. and then just changed the colors at the rip to map to the jobs spot color I wouldn't have to change them manually for each job.

thanks for the idea!!

sorry, I meant color bars. We use small .18 inch circles for color bars (our place prefers them)

Ok guys so what if you have a 6 color press? We can't seem to get the color bar to work with preps. The spot colors on the color bar should be blank if it is a a 4 color job however there is a spot color that is printing in those places when it shouldn't be. Which of course is screwing up the press when its trying to read how heavy the color should be. Any suggestions?
