Agfa Accuset 1000W and Upgrades

Hi, I'm fresh out of school and work alone doing prepress/design at a small shop. I wasn't here when any of our equipment(network/rip/imagesetter) was set up. We are considering either upgrading my g4 from os 10.3.9 to OS 10.4.x or completely replacing it with one of the new Intel macs.

Our set up is:
AGFA Accuset 1000W Plus
Viper 3.04 running on G4 in os 9

We send jobs from a G5(10.4) and my G4(10.3.9) to the computer running Viper in Classic.

If we were to do either of the upgrades listed above, what would be the process in setting up PPD's, etc on a new OS or completely new machine. I'm very new to all of this and am not even sure what/where PPD's go and anything else involved in setting up/changing the configuration we currently have.

Well it was quite a while ago but we had one of these years ago.

I tried to do this when OSX came out and I gave up. You may have to update the Viper to get it to go OS X. Be careful of card that drives the beast, it is very expensive (over $5000 new) and it may not be OSX savy or the drivers may not exist.

Best advice is to leave it alone and keep it going. The Company I sold my accuset to still is running the Viper 1.9 on the 7200 in OS 9 I gave them 3 years ago. Still running so the advice is - if it ain't broke don't f with it.

Of course there is a caveat - if you are trying to get INDD files and CS2/Quack 7 then you my friend have a dangerous and expensive battle on hour hand.
