Individual Character Blinding

Got a weird problem that I've heard described as 'Individual Character Blinding'. This is where single characters although they're imaged correctly on the plate refuse to take ink.

The only time we saw this was at one print shop that occasionally buy our plates. We just assumed that their press/ink/fount combination was to blame since no other client or indeed ourselves had the problem (til yesterday!).

Has anyone else seen this issue? If so what was the remedy?

Is this the same letter all over (say all the letters X) not printing?
Or is it an area on the plate of non printing characters?

Sounds like a finisher issue to me...
place a call to your local plate rep.

The blinding is random, even running the same plate twice. Also plates before and after the problem plate are fine. it only happens on fonts and only on extremely light coverage of image. For example... maybe 6 lines of black text for the inside of Xmas cards 8 up on a B2 size plate.

Curiously or co-incidentally the problem at the other printshop I mentioned was also on low image coverage, not tints, not solids just f**** fonts!
