Apogee 3 and InDesign PDF's (limitcheck save errors)

What is it with Apogee 3 and InDesign PDF's?? I am constanly getting limitcheck-save errors on some of the pdf's created. It seems to be coming from placed pdf's on pages that are then pdf'd from indesign, it doesn't seem to matter if the pdf's from InDesign are exported pdf's or distilled postscript files. I don't have access to all of my customers' original files, so I can't completely troubleshoot. I have found that making eps files from the pdf's fixes the limitcheck problem, but some of the fonts will blow. The only "foolproof" way I have found is doing the old watermark trick and creating outlines on the fonts, then making eps files and putting them back into the normalizer. I have all of the customers giving me 1.3 pdf's so it's not a transparency or layering thing.

Is there some memory setting somewhere in the RIP that will fix this??
I'm trying to make it 6-8 months before upgrading. (getting all new platesetters and front end)

Hi,

What version PDF were you dropping into the RIP? If you can see what happens if you save it down to either a PDF 1.3 or preferably a PDF 1.2.

Regards,
Greg

In my experience the 'error limitcheck - offending command save' is almost always caused by OPI comments that are (inadvertently) written into the PS file. Try using the pitstop action 'remove OPI comments' either independently or by enabling it in the Apogee normalizer if available - then try ripping the file again.
Good Luck - Baggie

OPI comments are removed by normalizer.

We require customers to save in 1.3 or lower, I haven't tried saving those same files down to 1.2, how would I backsave to v1.2? I don't think newer versions of distiller let you distill pdf's anymore, and if I have to save as EPS to save it down to 1.2, I'm not saving any steps for the workaround I already have in place.
