Dell Server/Apogee PDF RIP V2 /Apogee Taipan 3.1/Sale??

Hello to you all ,

I am after some advice that I hoping one of you may be able to provide :?: It concerns a Dell server that I have recently purchased secondhand. Unbeknownst to me it had the Apogee PDF RIP V2 software installed along with an Apogee Taipan 3.1 Dongle/Security Key on the back.

Although working within the field of IT, I must confess that I have little background and certainly no practical hand-on knowledge of Pre-press technology/systems. Although originally not having looked to resell the system, having briefly spoken with Agfa tech. support for general info. on the product, they've advised that it could be worth selling the server along with the software/security key etc. as a whole system

Do any of you have any advice on what a system might be worth and perhaps more importantly, where I should look to market this.

I hope that I am requesting this information in the right way and in the right place, although please accept for apologies if not.

Many thanks

:? J

You may want to see if it's usable first. If the company you got the box from upgraded to another Agfa product, the dongle would've been deactivated, rendering the software useless.
I think that software was selling for about $5,000 new. Also, if the Agfa In-rip trapping software (another $5,000) is installed, that would make it more valueble. Not really sure what it'd be worth though. I guess only as much as someone would be willing to pay. If you have a printing vendor/supplier in your area, you could contact them. If they know someone that could use it, they might purchase it from you and sell it to them at a tidy profit, I'm sure. Ebay is also an option. The Series 3 rip isn't extremely outdated yet, so you might get lucky.

Scott,

Many thanks for your quick reply and information and apologies for my own delay in replying. It think the dongle is still active as the software recognises that a printer isn't hooked up to the server and appears to use the dongle instead, I guess in a form of loopback method.

Hopefully this is the case - As suggested, I will try to contact Agfa to ascertain whether this dongle is still indeed active.

Many thanks again

Jamie

PS. Anyone else who might be able to offer information on this issue and suggest uses for the server would be very much appreciated. I feel a bit like a fish out of water with a system I have never used.

If it helps, server spec's are as follows:

Dell Poweredge 1400sc
2 x 1GHz P3 Processors
1GB RAM
18GB Harddrives
Windows 2000 Server Installed With COA

Thanks :?
