Apogee series 3

We are having an issue where certain zip compressed image files contained in our PDF's are generating an error at the Agfa Apogee pilot (series 3). Specifically when Acrobat 4 creates the Level 3 Postscript file and Preps (4.0.7) try's to import it we get an error ?bad argument?syntax error?. If we force Acrobat to write Level 2 Postscript the error goes away. Has anyone seen this issue? The photos in the original PDF causing this issue are zip+ascii85. I have several hundred of these images throughout the document however only some generate this error. I have been unable to see a difference in the images themselves although there must be something I am overlooking. So maybe this is a two part question: Has anyone seen this issue? Or, can we upgrade our Preps to a version which may not choke on this PS level 3 operator?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Allen

If you re-distill your pdf's using JPEG compression instead of zip compression, do you get the same results?

No. If I resave using JPEG it works fine. Also if I just resave the PDF without using JPEG the error goes away. The creator of the PDF is from a TEX based system where they are using the Y and Y postscript driver then distilling. I believe that something is being introduced there and whatever it is, it is being stripped out during a resave. What bothers me is that I am unable to see the difference. So I send the file and basically cross my fingers.
