Separate boxes for proofer rip and print drive

We have a Nexus RIP that goes to an Agfa Print Drive. We also have the Proofer RIP on with the Print Drive. This causes a lot of problems such as confusing the Print Drive while trying to do two tasks at the same time, such as running a W&B proof on the Sherpamatic43 and running a plate at the same time. The proof will be in the middle of trying to back up and get confused and abort. We weren't told by any sales rep that the 2 NEED to be on separate boxes. We were informed of this by Agfa Tech Support, which is the BEST by the way, after we called with a problem. They said that eventually they will stop tech support until the two are separated which is an extra $10k. When we purchased the system the $10k sounds like a drop in the bucket considering what the whole system cost but when it's an after thought it's a lot of money. Anyone else having problems with a confused Print Drive with the same set up? I highly recommend the Agfa CTP set up but I really like Nexus for the workflow. 8)

Our proofing rip is on a separate box, but still really notice the PrintDrive chugging along when alot of things are happening... what do you mean about your proofing rip anyway? For contract colour proofs? the PrintDrive engine alone drives our Matic, and Sherpa43 (only for process - bad spot mathching - we send these through the separate proofing rip). Load balancing is a good thing though, 10 grand??? why not just buy a box on your own? you already have the install disks and dongle for your proofing rip and PrintDrive no?

Keep in mind we are a university which translates in to state money which the sales reps love to dig their fingers in to. Ours doesn't chug it just goes stupid and forgets what it's doing. The proofer rip is for contract proofs only because that's where our ICC profile is. We are now going to be trained in color profileing. Everything I have read about that is it's pretty much a waste of time and money. I can't believe the perfection they expect out of this system.
