Converting Spot to Process in Acrobat

Using Acrobat 7 Pro, have a PDF with Spot Colors Built in. When I go to the Output Preview, It shows CMYK as well as the 2 process colors that are listed, when looking at the color in solids, it recognizes them to be a pantone color. When I do a convert all spots to process, it does it at the time I ask, but when I Do a Save, or a Save As, and then reopen the document, It reverts to the way it was with the spot colors still there, what am I doing Wrong??

It sometimes leaves the spot colors listed although they are not being used. Check your output preview and make sure there is nothing in the listed spot colors by turning off all seps except the spots. You should see nothing but the white background. If it is indeed still using the spots, how are you changing them? I assume Acrobat, Print Productions Tools, Change Colors since you didn't mention Pitstop.

Hmm Ive had the same problems. I think we got convert colors to work on the PC, but it never seems to stick on the MAC. The best plug in ive found for color converting is Callas PDF Color Convert.

I might be wrong but I think that from inside the Output Preview/Ink Manager window it only changes it from spot to process for viewing on the screen. You have to either use Pitstop or the Print Production Tools/Convert Colors to actually change the file.

I just did a quick test, if I converted spots to cmyk using ink manager and then saved the pdf when I reopened I found that the spots were still there. But if I saved postscript and distilled the spot colors stayed converted to cmyk, who knew? Interesting.

You can't actually change the spots with the Ink Manager. It is only used for display purposes. If you want to convert them to process use the Print Production tool called "Convert Colors".

As far as distilling a new PDF you are probably using convert to CMYK job options.
