extended graphics state error

I suppose the title of the thread pretty much sums it up..
A) what is it? B) how do I fix it?

This is a new issue and pops up on an OS9 machine with Pitstop 5

Any insight will be appreciated. From what I can gather it has something to do with paths and strokes?? but I can't find enough on it to make it clear

found this:

The graphics state set in a PDF file has been extended to include some device-dependent parameters. This “extended graphics state” allows the specification of stroke adjustment, overprinting, black generation, undercolor removal, transfer functions, halftone screens, and halftone phase.

From what are you making your PDF files?
Are they coming from Quark perchance?

Thank you David.. and yes, they are pdf's generated in Quark. Is there anything I should tell the client that will prevent this error from happening? It's an old client and the error never popped up before
