Latest version of Acrobat Distiller Server

Does anyone know what the latest version of Acrobat Distiller Server is? I have not seen anything past v6.0.1. When I contacted one of our vendors I was told that I would have to go to Adobe LiveCycle which is very expensive. Has anyone else heard of this?

You know, Adobe actually has a web site. This site is dedicated to Adobe software.

You should check this site out, it took me 3 seconds to find the answer there....

"Although Acrobat Elements Server and Acrobat Distiller Server will no longer be available for purchase, Adobe will continue to support these products for up to seven years with extended support. "

If I were you, I would always look for the answer before "contacting your vendor".

The "vendor", while a good resource for wierd problems for things that he has sold you, is at best a salesman who will smell blood when asked questions that even he, she, or he/she could look up while talking to you without even stalling the conversation.

And to completely be an A-hole, there is another site that is very usefull to answer questions before having to post.

www.google.com

this site will actuall search the internet, using key words that you type in, for the best answer to your question. When you get used to how to search, it is the ultimate problem solver.

A Real Reply

"Does anyone know what the latest version of Acrobat Distiller Server is?"
well I spent more than 3 seconds on Adobe and couldn't find an answer. When googled I got 6.0.0, which isn't as current as your version. I do know that Adobe no longer produces Distiller Server.

"Adobe LiveCycle...Has anyone else heard of this?"
My guess is that tbJAMMIN hasn't. I manage in a 100+ workstation prepress (excluding creative) and we're also looking for a possible enterprise solution (not just prepress). If all you are looking to do is distill numerous pdfs over a network, LiveCycle would be overkill. I would use either your current Distiller or one of numerous export options within your layout application. If you currently have scripting/automation in place and are looking for a enterprise solution, LiveCycle mat actually be a viable solution. It seems it was created for a complete pdf document solution. Here is a link to a helpful FAQ.

It amazes me that you can achieve mastermind status on this forum with replies that have no value or substance. Wow, I wonder what a prepress would be like with team members giving answers like the previous "mastermind" poster?

I knew that wasn't going to go over too well.

I apologize for my sarcastic posts. I would never have done such a thing without also mixing in some information with it. In other words "something good to say".

my point was that the vendors are sales people when it comes to advice.

also that a question such as that, indicated that no effort was made using the more obvious methods before norcrans started just asking other people.

I do not wish to start any kind of flame post topic on this one.
