All depends on the PostScript going into the Distiller... i.e. How was the PostScript generated (application, drivers, OS?) ...
Is Distiller running out of memory
Is your PS file corrupt / does it contain errors ...
If you have a big PS file, and want to fault a page, try only Distilling selected pages (use the Page Range in the General section to do that) ...
Have you tried distilling in smaller sets? Does the same happen?
If your job is big and has many images it can be a large PDF ...
