Output solid spot colours from PDF

I'm unable to output spot colours as solids from supplied pdf's.. when I create the .eps file and place into quark etc. the pms colour comes over as a spot (no problem there) but when I print the spot as a sep, it outputs the colour as a screen i.e. not solid. Is it reading the alternatie colour space instead? how do I get around this??? HELP

Try turning your color management off entirely. See if that makes it happen...

If you are supplied a PDF file are you making an EPS and then placing that into Quark because Quark doesn't recognize the spot color in the PDF if you place it? Are you sure the spot isn't a percentage of the spot color to begin with? Do you have InDesign? It will recogize the spot color in a PDF. If you have Acrobat 6 it can output the spot color too.

Thanks for that Joe... tried InDesign and got the result I was looking for - cheers.

And yes, I do .eps cause Quark doesn't see the PMS in placed PDF's... I checked the file out with PitStop (Acrobat 4) and as far as I can tell (being an inexperienced pitstop user) the spot used is a solid - not a tint, with the alternative colour space being CMYK....

Still not sure as to why Quark can "see" the PMS as a spot (brought in as a .eps) , but is unable to output it as such.......

asap, glad it worked for you. Quark and PDF mix together like oil and water. Hopefully someday Quark will recognize PDF is here to stay...

PS: love your screen name, very appropriate for this business.
