Copy/Paste, Drag & Drop, File Place

Mac OSX, Creative Suite 2

We are having a VERY heated battle where I work. I would like to get outside opinions on this subject. Here goes...

Our designers insist on putting Illustrator and Photoshop images in their InDesign files by either dragging and dropping, or by copying and pasting the image in.

Our printer has asked that we use the place command under the file menu. That way if anything is wrong with the image at least they have a file to go back to and work with.

I am siding with the printer. I have witnessed too many problems with dragging and dropping or copying and pasting.

I would love to get your opinions and experiences on this subject. THANKS
