mate if they wont you sound like you will - which is better in the long run - learn from here, learn about transparency (for now), pdf print engine, rips, spot colours and flattening, pitstop, die lines, batch processing, screening, workflows - learn what ya can here - it's a huge place for that.
when issues arise from say opening a quark pdf with spot colours and transparency - and it all goes haywire - you can say - place that in indy then! jeez its so simple....
its a progressive (read manic) industry that moves real quick - folks at your place seem a little stuck and surfing on job security - which is probably why they don't like sharing any info with the "noob"
