Confirm trying all of the above. Had one [second hand] for 3 years. [Almost] bullet-proof. Sounds like the SCSI-card mighta scuzzed itself, though. Don't rule out the terminal clean-up. Eliminate the simple stuff 1st.
One thing you may want to do is make sure the tech has the correct wide-SCSI board IN HIS VAN when he comes out. Nothing worse than suppressing the urge to throttle a tech for saying: "looks like the SCSI card...I'll order one in and see you next Wednesday...if it's in". You can be up for assault.
Another alternative is to see if anyone's surplussing a 5055, or has pushed it into a corner of the press-room to make way for that nice new CTP. I kept 2 Eskofot 295DLs alive for 2 years on cannibalised parts.
