i get the same cacca with PDF files. my latest fix is to (in quark or indesign) to step and repeat at 0 - 0 about 4 times, depending how many sides bleed. then depending if its a gradient, solid or image i will flip horiz-vert, place in back and make the box .125. this is a poor mans method but works out alot. also in photoshop you can duplicate layer after increasing canvas size. than on the bottom layer you can stretch the edges by tranform selections, sometimes faster than detailed cloning. depends on whats bleeding i guess. hope this helps.
