Adding bleeds in Photoshop
This really is a no-brainer, but I only came across if a few months ago and now use it often.
For those of us in prepress, we regularly get entire layouts done entirely in Photoshop to the exact size of the finished piece - no bleeds. So what I do is drag ruler guides to the exact edges of the document, then under Image>Resize Canvas I select the "Relative" checkbox and then add the necessary amounts (at least .25" here in the US to get .125" bleed on each side) and leave the canvas color white.
After that you can either clone the new extended canvas area or fill it with solid color, depending on the image.
Don't roll your eyes if this is redundant. All of us learn something new every day - admit it!
