Printer Setup "Local System V Printer" PPD? Can't

Running OS 10.4.4

Had time to do some "tidying up" on this computer today, and moved all my PPDs into this folder (they were strewn all over the place before):

Root > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > en.lproj >

In Printer Setup Utility, I attempted to connect my installed printers to the PPDs, but all the PPDs I moved into this folder were grayed out. All the printers are AppleTalk networked devices.

Okay. So I just started from scratch and added printers, and the PPDs were not grayed out. However, I selected the PPD, clicked Apply Changes, and in the main window of my Printer List the "Kind" is listed as "Local System V Printer" instead of the actual PPD name (as it was before).

I tried sending a print job and it seems to process out of InDesign, but nothing ever goes into the Print Queue. I've Googled this a bit, but I'm wasting too much time now and starting to feel flustered.

Any ideas? Have I left out any important info? Should I try getting new PPD files from the printer vendors?
