If you are creating an image (for someone else perhaps) which is to be viewed in PhotoShop, an embedded ICC Profile will tell PhotoShop how to display the image, or how to convert it to another colour space (e.g. from RGB to CMYK, etc.). All this assumes that PhotoShop's Color Settings, etc. are set up! The ICC Profile will explain which exact colour space the image is in.
