There is not "best ICC profile". There is the profile that belongs to the images. If it is a screen shot from Windows, a digital camera image, from Microsoft Office then it's 99.999999% chance going to be sRGB. If it is from a Mac (Quartz) Calibrated RGB. But the images should be tagged and have those profiles brought along into the PDF.

AdobeRGB is the "standard" in PRE Creative Suite/Photoshop. Lately it's been sRGB (even though it's a bit more blue).

Like I said, there's no "best profile". There's only the profile that belongs to to the capture device that is supposed to be attached by default. You can always convert RGB to RGB if you like.
