Breakthrough In Printed Electronics

Breakthrough In Printed Electronics (10/17/2005)>excerpt from GAMMAG.

The Institute for Print and Media Technology at Chemnitz University in Germany developed a new process that enables electronic circuitry to be produced with mass printing technology. The process will enable the low-cost, mass production of integrated circuitry in paper and cardboard. The first practical applications are expected to be electronic printed maps, paper keyboards, clothing labels, luggage tags, packaging, tickets and more.

The institute's researchers tested all mass printing technologies such as offset, gravure and flexographic printing.

The process prints with polymers that can be processed similar to ink. Compared to traditional printing, say project researchers, the demands on precision as well as on the chemical characteristics of the printing inks are considerably higher. A single mistake in printing will immediately lead to malfunctions of the printed circuit.

How innovative!! just think of all the possibilities with this.
